Diversity Fellowship Program
In 2008, we formally started a diversity fellowship program for first-year law students. McGlinchey’s 1L Diversity Fellowship represents our firm’s long-term commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace and to promoting diversity within the legal profession. From our inception, we challenged the status quo and earned a reputation as a progressive, merit-based business that rewards individual achievement and potential. Our 1L Diversity Fellowship is just one aspect of our commitment to attracting, mentoring, developing, and promoting diverse attorneys and starts at the beginning of a lawyer’s career – the first year of law school.
We welcome first-year law students to apply for our 2021 Diversity Fellowship.
The fellowship consists of:
Summer Associate Position
The recipient will receive a paid summer clerkship in our Cleveland, New Orleans, or Washington, DC office. The award recipient will also be eligible for consideration of a 2L clerkship.
A $5,000 scholarship to assist with the costs of books, tuition, or other law school expenses, will be distributed to the Fellow’s law school at the beginning of the fall semester.
Leadership Council On Legal Diversity
The 1L Diversity Fellow will have the opportunity to attend the virtual 2021 1L LCLD Scholars Summit, May 18-20, 2021. The summit features an innovative curriculum developed exclusively for LCLD that focuses on leadership, relationship building, and career development strategies.
McGlinchey is dedicated to giving our summer associates the opportunity for future permanent hire. We demonstrate this commitment by partnering two attorneys with each summer associate in a formal mentorship program and providing a mentor to the Fellow throughout his or her law school career.
Candidates must be enrolled full-time at an accredited law school, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and have excellent academic credentials. The following application materials must be submitted no later than January 22, 2021:
- Law school transcript (first-semester grades required)
- A personal statement of approximately 500 words describing your interest in our 1L Diversity Fellowship and how you would contribute to the diversity of McGlinchey and its community
Stay tuned for application details.
