FBI begins probe into IRS leak
Read Time: 1 minMember and Co-Chair of the Government and Internal Investigations team Bob Driscoll (Washington) appeared on “FOX Business” on June 16 discussing the presumed leak of high net worth, high profile taxpayers’ confidential information.
The damage is to the institution of the IRS. The whole idea of the government, as a taxpayer is that, if you’re going to turn over sensitive information to the government, there’s a level of trust that it’s not going to get leaked. And I think the decision as to whether or not some political issue is more important than this privacy — that’s supposed to be an institutional decision made by the institution itself, not by some individual. … There’s no rule of law if every individual employee can make their own decision about what’s right in any given circumstance.
Bob is a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Chief of Staff of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
