Of Counsel Sanford Shatz (Irvine) will co-present “Fundamentals of Reverse Mortgages and Their Legal Ramifications” at the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) Real Estate Law Section Meeting on October 28, 2025, in Newport Beach, California. This program will explore the world of reverse mortgages. Presenters will discuss the fundamentals of reverse mortgages, what they are, how they are originated, how they can be used, and how they are serviced. The discussion will also include how reverse mortgages are enforced, as well as potential challenges and defenses, such as challenging a default. They will look at how these mortgages can help your clients, legal issues that arise with reverse mortgages, and government regulation of the field. Finally, they will review special issues and legal claims that arise with reverse mortgages, which do not arise with forward mortgages.
