Future of Finance Webinar Series: Routing Payment Innovation Within Regulatory Checkpoints
Read Time: 1 minOver the past decade, the payments market has changed significantly. Whether it is the use of peer-to-peer payments apps, digital assets, or even pay-by-bank, consumers have sought to engage with payments in a way that is far from cash and checks. However, even with this market development, the laws and regulations governing payments and their providers have largely stayed the same. Ultimately, this melding of new payments services with old payments laws can create unique questions for both providers and consumers regarding consumer protections and risk management. Federal and state laws incorporate payment related regulations, but state law regulatory regimes approach payments programs differently compared to credit programs.
Members Aaron Kouhoupt and Robert Savoie (Cleveland) will moderate a conversation with Ky Tran-Trong of Visa, Chris Rigoni of Axiom Bank, N.A. and Gary Stein of Accenture for an in-depth discussion on the US regulatory framework surrounding payment programs in American Fintech Council’s the Future of Finance Webinar Series: Routing Payment Innovation Within Regulatory Checkpoints on July 24, 2025. They will review the regulatory focus for different types of payment providers and other parties in the payments ecosystem, while addressing common issues that arise in this context as well as the challenges of state versus federal oversite.
