Read Time: 1 minRudy Cerone (New Orleans) co-presented “Hot Topics: The Final Report of the ABI Commission on Consumer Bankruptcy” at the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 2019 Annual Spring Meeting on April 13 in Washington, DC.
Rudy is 1 of 13 nationwide practitioners on the ABI’s Commission on Consumer Bankruptcy, who for the past 3 years, have performed a thorough review of the country’s 40-year-old bankruptcy code. The Final Report focuses on reductions of barriers to entry, enhancing the fresh start, and making chapter 13 work for all stakeholders. The panel discussed the findings of the Commission, focusing on student loans; how attorneys get paid; and a “reserve fund” for chapter 13s so that debtors can save for unexpected emergency expenses.
