“Tuning up to State and Local Contracting in Challenging Times – Natural Disasters, Budgets, Ethics”
Nashville, TN
Presented at the 8th Annual State and Local Procurement Symposium (hosted by the American Bar Association’s Section of Public Contract Law), David Dugas, Christopher Myers and Angela Hinton will discuss “Legal Compliance/Law Enforcement.” Significant responsibility comes with the receipt of state and local government dollars. Enforcement authorities are closely scrutinizing the procurement and utilization of government dollars to make sure awards are appropriately generated, managed, and free from price fixing, bribery, corruption, and fraud. This panel provides an overview of these enforcement trends—taking a close look at the enforcement theories utilized relating to the Criminal False Claims Act and Civil False Claims Act. Panelists will also provide key insight into designing an effective compliance program that will help protect organizations.
About the 8th Annual State and Local Procurement Symposium
It is a challenging time for state and local government contracting due to budget constraints and shortage of human resources. Such procurement challenges are only exacerbated when disaster strikes. While all of this would seem to lead to yet another sad country song, we invite you to join the Public Contract Law Section and the State and Local Government Section in Nashville, also known as “Music City,” for a special Backstage Pass to an upbeat look at meeting procurement challenges head on and improving government purchasing through creativity and innovation. This Backstage Pass will entitle you to hear from some of the “stars” of state and local government contracting in a setting with other VIPs, including representatives from state and local government and private sector government contractors.
