Read Time: 1 minHelen Mosothoane (Dallas) was interviewed by Law360 Pulse on August 26, 2022, about her new role as Co-Chair of the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) Diversity and Inclusion Committee, McGlinchey’s work in DEI, and the current environment for women in law.
What I really like about [NAWL] is that they try to tackle issues that are going to impact women overall. When Roe v. Wade was overturned, they issued a memo on how this is going to impact women’s rights moving forward and the different ways individual states are going to view the issue.
NAWL promotes diversity and my firm does as well, so I want to bring attention to both organizations and the fact that they focus on diversity and inclusion and to continue celebrating the diversity of not just the organizations but society in general. We want to promote events and webinars that highlight that diversity and try to include as many groups as possible.
Fortunately, when I started my legal career in 2006, many strides had already been made and since then, I see more improvements being made in terms of more women being promoted to executive level positions and running more committees. I think that’s because firms are becoming more conscious to include women, especially of diverse backgrounds.
