MEC member McGlinchey Stafford, PLLC had an emergency evacuation plan for its New Orleans office that ws implemented hours before Katrina hit the Crescent City and was cited nationally in The New York Times, USA Today, and locally in the Baton Rouge Advocate. Most of its 88 lawyers and 173 staff members went to the firm’s Baton Rouge office, while the rest were dispersed to satellite offices in other citied Houston, Dallas and Jackson.
Days before Katrina hit, the firm rented additional office space in Baton Rouge, lined up living space for employees, and rerouted electronics and communications through Houston. Within days after the hurricane, the company was in full swing, while its five-story New Orleans office building was not functional.
