O’Brien Elected to Board of Governors of the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit

Governors of the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit have elected Jay O’Brien to serve on its Board of Governors for his preeminence in the field of appellate law and his involvement in the organization.  The Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit is comprised of lawyers who regularly appear before the premier appellate court in the country, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Board of Governors is elected from a three-state region of outstanding practitioners in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.  O’Brien is one of two elected Governors at Large for the state of Louisiana and will serve a term of three years, expiring in 2011.

Jay M. O’Brien is a member of McGlinchey Stafford’s Baton Rouge office. He practices in the areas of appellate, commercial, business and intellectual property litigation and regularly handles appeals in both state and federal courts.  Over the last five years, O’Brien has been involved in more than fifty appellate matters and has conducted extensive appellate litigation regarding unfair trade practice claims, shareholder derivative actions, gaming matters, and health insurance claims.  In addition to his appellate practice, O’Brien represents national companies in complex commercial litigation and intellectual property matters.

O’Brien currently serves as Chair of the Appellate Section Rules Committee of the Louisiana State Bar Association and is the Director of the Capital Area United Way.  He is a graduate of Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center.
