Kathy Conklin, Labor and Employment Member in our New Orleans office, appeared in a segment from NTD-TV regarding employers’ options to impose penalties on unvaccinated employees on August 11, 2021. Kathy discussed imposing surcharges on healthcare coverage premiums.
“While it is a possibility to impose a surcharge, it has to be reasonable, to fail to be vaccinated.” But she says a surcharge probably won’t work, because companies also have to offer an alternative, such as working remotely or wearing a mask. “It is very likely that employers are not going to greatly increase their vaccination rates by imposing these sorts of disincentives for refusing vaccination.”
