Q&A: COVID-19 legal issues for employersRead Time: 1 min
New Orleans Member Christine Tenley was profiled in a Q&A in New Orleans CityBusiness on August 18, 2021, regarding employers’ responsibilities following Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s announcement that proof of vaccination will be required to enter the city’s restaurants and entertainment venues.
I would develop a streamlined process on how I was going to implement this as a business owner. I would call a meeting with my team and let them know who would be assigned what positions, whether it would be a completely new and separate position or somebody already on staff to sit at the door as the screener. I would train them and get them up to speed. Show them what a CDC vaccine card looks like and tell them if they see things that are obvious mistakes such as spelling errors or other omissions, then they are free to turn folks away, and if there is a problem or escalation, there needs to be support for that employee such as backup security or manager to ensure their safety. This is the same kind of thing when turning someone away who has had too much to drink.
