Baton Rouge attorneys Jay O’Brien (Member / U.S. Army, Armor Company Commander) and Lucas Schenk (Associate / U.S. Army Reserves, Psychological Operations Specialist) will join a panel discussion on “Veterans in the Legal Field” hosted by the LSU Law Veterans Advocacy Club at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with complimentary food and refreshments.

Louisiana employers can be responsible for employees’ garnishments on behalf of creditor

Buried deep in the Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure is a little-known law which gives creditors the right to seek wage garnishments from a borrower’s employer if the borrower fails to satisfy a loan obligation. In a recent case, after failing to respond timely (within 15 days) to garnishment interrogatories from an employee’s creditor and failing to appear at a hearing, an employer was held responsible for the full amount of a judgment rendered against its employee.

The Louisiana Supreme Court issued a landmark decision on March 13, 2018, upholding the constitutionality of the allocation of state and local Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) funding to New Type 2 charter schools pursuant to La.
