Cost Predictability Combined with Strategic, Aggressive Patent Prosecution is Key to Successful Global Patent Portfolio Management
Where we started: Our client, a multinational developer and manufacturer of specialty chemicals, ranks among the top three product suppliers, and in one case the top product supplier, in the world in its primary business segments. The company demands excellence in the crafting of its patent procurement strategy and global patent procurement activities, to protect its valuable inventions worldwide. It expects the patent portfolio to be developed holistically – strategically and aggressively – without wasting time and money on duplication of effort.
Our strategy – plus more: McGlinchey’s Chemical and Industrial Services team developed a program to bundle patents in “families” of products, so that prosecution could be centrally managed and efficiently carried out under a predictable, fixed fee service agreement. We collaborated with the company to handle all of its outside patent procurement needs while avoiding large, unexpected deviations in fees and costs.
Upshot: Using this fixed fee arrangement, McGlinchey’s attorneys have represented the company for 25 years. We have prepared and prosecuted patent applications and managed prosecution of a global portfolio of patent applications for the company, including patent appeals, oppositions and related third party proceeds in countries around the globe. Our Chemical and Industrial Services team has also represented the company in IP litigation, commercial litigation, and labor and employment matters in locations across the United States.
