I am passionate about solving my clients’ problems. Being triple board-certified in trial work and having handled cases up to nine-figure amounts gives me the experience, at the very beginning, to set a strategy to win efficiently. This doesn’t always mean winning at trial. The key, I believe, is to listen carefully to my clients. My clients define winning for me. They know their business and I can get from them the information I need to craft a comprehensive solution. I enjoy strategizing and working with my clients. We stay in touch with one another and navigate each case to the optimal and efficient conclusion. We win together. That is my goal and what motivates me.
Clients appreciate Joel Mohrman’s habit of focusing on their business goals from the first phone call. On a matter for a Fortune 500 client which encompassed a Federal Class Action and a Texas MDL, Joel developed a strategy before he even appeared in the case, which encompassed seeking legislative changes as well as multi-pronged litigation that stymied the plaintiffs.
While he addresses their short-term needs, Joel also assesses the long-term goals in a matter to inform strategy in the case. In effect, he works to “see around the corner” to ascertain where things are likely to go. By taking this approach, he’s better able to position clients to obtain the best possible outcomes. Joel’s clients know that he cares deeply about them and their matters. They value his reliability and commitment to their interests while always maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. Joel asked an opposing counsel who later referred him a number of matters why he chose to make the referrals. His response was, “Because you care.” The client’s cause becomes Joel’s cause as well.
Leading multiple legal teams in commercial litigation and intellectual property matters, Joel has tried more than 40 cases to verdict as first chair for Fortune 500 companies and other organizations and individuals.
Joel represents clients in intellectual property litigation, class actions, high-profile complex commercial litigation, often with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, and cases involving healthcare entities, oil and gas clients, insurers, and financial institutions. He has litigated approximately 100 trade secret and covenant not-to-compete cases.
While his practice is based in Texas, Joel serves a nationwide client base, handling matters in 25 states, from Florida to California. Much of his work originates with clients from different parts of the country who need superior representation for disputes in the Southwest. He counsels clients in several industries, including energy, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, and financial services.
Joel creates efficiency by up-front analysis using a matrix of factors he has developed. This holistic strategizing allows him to cut to the chase and reliably achieve client objectives. Such a clear-eyed process also means no surprises for clients and an ability to creatively work as a team with his clients. Joel actively manages cases to resolution to relieve clients of unnecessary oversight burdens and to stay within budget.
Joel stays up to date on issues facing his clients through his speaking and writing on relevant topics. He has most recently written and spoken on healthcare, trade secrets, statutory interpretation, and intellectual property. Joel enjoys these engagements and uses them to enhance his ability to deliver results to his clients, which is his passion.
