John Murray assists financial services companies in various litigated matters, primarily related to charges brought under consumer protection statutes. His clients include mortgage servicing and auto finance companies, bank and non-bank lenders, and others in state and federal courts. In particular, he advises clients related to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act and other state UDAAP (Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices) laws, and related statutes.
In previous roles, John worked both as outside counsel and in-house managing collection services for a commercial credit management company. He has worked on matters ranging from commercial debt disputes to construction litigation and mechanic’s lien laws. He has also litigated matters related to contract disputes, real estate, and business entity formation, and has created and updated corporate policies and vendor contracts. Through these roles, John honed the ability to distill and simplify complex issues and present them in a digestible manner without losing any important details or nuance.
