Growing up in a family of professional photographers and artists, I learned early on how to frame a sophisticated narrative through close observation of human behavior. In my experience as an attorney and mediator, I have found that any legal conflict must be framed not only with the facts at hand, legal precedent, and the underlying law, but also with consideration of the human element. Whether uncovering evidence for a multimillion-dollar jury trial or leading parties through a mediation to a satisfactory settlement, I handle each case with determination, wisdom, civility, and kindness.
As a litigator, Kathryn Marshall represents clients in matters ranging from environmental issues, personal injury claims, employment conflicts, contractual disagreements, and property disputes – including homeowners’ association (HOA) and landlord/tenant disputes. She has worked on cases in California state and federal court representing both governmental entities and private individuals and businesses.
With an investigator’s attention to detail, Kathryn examines her cases from all perspectives, including those of opposing counsel, a judge, or members of a jury. Kathryn knows from two decades of legal experience that seemingly small details can make or break large cases, so she takes a tenacious approach, conducting thorough research and digging until she gets to the bottom of an issue.
A skilled counselor who ran her own law and mediation firm for many years, Kathryn takes care to find common ground to resolve conflicts. She believes that her clients are best served when encouraged to lay out all pieces of the puzzle in order to evaluate the strength of each party’s position and make informed choices.
Prior to practicing law, Kathryn’s professional pursuits included photography (her work has appeared in Time magazine, The Smithsonian, and National Geographic) and education (volunteering for years as “Mrs. Wizard” in her kids’ elementary science program.)
