I became a lawyer because coming together with a client to solve a problem is very rewarding to me. Whether helping an established company grow into a new area of operation or guiding an emerging business on complying with the complex interplay of federal and state financial regulations, I start by listening intently to determine the goals for each matter. I thrive on and excel at building a rapport with my clients and partnering with them to develop solutions.
Tiyanna Lords is an Associate in McGlinchey’s New Orleans office. She focuses her practice on helping financial institutions remain compliant and competitive given the intricate regulatory framework in which they operate. A gifted researcher, Tiyanna represents banks, finance companies, mortgage companies, and online lenders with issues ranging from fifty-state surveys of compliance requirements to vendor contracting, payment systems, privacy, and data security. She also advises on matters related to consumer loan documentation, e-commerce and digital lending, underwriting, and licensing.
A passion for supporting businesses in their success drove Tiyanna to earn a joint J.D./M.B.A. Her strength lies in her diligence, and she prides herself on learning something new every day. If she doesn’t know the answer, she will find it, and no one involved will see her sweat.
Tiyanna has a background in criminal defense and family law. Before graduating law school, Tiyanna successfully argued on behalf of a 46-year-old inmate in Louisiana’s Angola State Penitentiary that a life sentence imposed when he was 15 years old was cruel and unusual. The court agreed, and he was released. That case is one of Tiyanna’s proudest moments, and she is still in regular communication with that former client. She has also worked as a mediator and interned with the New Orleans Police Department, among many other clerkships and internships.
