Charleston, SCMelissa Grand (Baton Rouge) and Mag Bickford (New Orleans) will present at the Annual Conference of the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) on October 15, 2018 in Charleston, South Carolina. The SAIS Annual Conference draws independent school leaders from throughout the region, including more than 400 heads of school and administrators.
Melissa and Mag’s session is entitled “Protecting Student Data in an (Un)Secure World” and will address a broad spectrum of independent schools’ cybersecurity needs. Cybersecurity and data privacy issues are key considerations for all educational institutions. In their presentation, Melissa and Mag will discuss student records laws, including FERPA; potential liability/exposure in case of a cyber attack or data breach; remediation issues; and what schools should proactively do to ensure proper protections are in place. This session will provide best practices regarding independent schools’ cybersecurity and data privacy issues, with an emphasis on student records and student privacy considerations.
