I take pride in connecting the dots and empowering people to do their best work. I see my role as a motivator and my biggest reward is helping people develop and progress in their careers. Whether it is office design, hiring, or event planning, I thrive on collaborating with colleagues across departments and offices to build and optimize programs.
A versatile, behind-the-scenes leader, Jessica VanTroost plays an integral role in McGlinchey’s administrative and operational teams. With more than 15 years of experience in various legal roles, she has worked in both small and large firms across multiple states. Working with members of various offices and teams throughout the firm is one of her favorite parts of the job.
Based on her background spanning numerous administrative roles, Jessica’s position has evolved to include equal parts recruiting, operations, HR, and special projects, so no two days are the same. No matter the task, she excels at putting a strategy together like puzzle pieces, as well as building and deploying teams to identify solutions and implement improvements.
Jessica is passionate about supporting the people of McGlinchey, in their daily work and in their careers, and takes her role as a manager seriously. Equipping people with the tools, skills, and guidance they need to grow is one of her top priorities, whether they report to her or not.
In her enthusiastic support for Team McGlinchey, Jessica is a co-founding member of the Ministry of Fun (MOF). This initiative, born out of the pandemic, presents opportunities for employees to engage, connect, and support each other across distance and job functions. Its activities span a book club and summer “step competition” to trivia contests and employee giving campaigns. Jessica’s second internal title is “Commish,” as she leads the MOF’s weekly football pool, fantasy football league, and basketball brackets.
After managing an office through an unexpected leadership change, Jessica developed skills she never expected to hone. The experience taught her to be an empathetic manager and how to be flexible in times of uncertainty – skills which have served her well in situations ranging from COVID-19 to hurricanes. Because of this specific and rare experience, Jessica presents her thoughts on leading through grief and unexpected change across the country.
