Baltimore Bridge Collapse: What We Know So Far
Read Time: 1 minMember José Cot spoke to Law360 for a March 26, 2024 article outlining the unfolding investigation into the the Francis Scott Key bridge accident. José discussed the impact of the disruption on the maritime and transportation industries, given the scale of property damage at the port.
Vessel traffic was suspended at the Port of Baltimore, which is the number one U.S. port for automobiles, light trucks and so-called rollon/roll off wheeled cargo and machinery that can be driven directly on and off the vessel. But trucks are still transporting goods that werealready on the docks through the port’s marine terminals. The next few days will be a scramble to find logistical alternatives for reroutingcargo along the East Coast, experts say.
“By all accounts, given the magnitude of the port and the amount of trade and commerce, it is to be expected that the impact it’ll have on East Coast traffic and the process of rerouting cargo is quite significant,” McGlinchey Stafford PLLC maritime and insurance attorney José Cot told Law360. “The entire region is in shock.”
